The curiosity of wanting to see Ground Zero, and/or what’s left of it had led me to spend Eid in New York City. I must say it was indeed an expensive trip we paid, both in terms of dollars and forcefulness, as the flight to get there was hampered with delays after delays, the cherry on the cake was the announcement upon arrival at the land of opportunity.
We were inclined the good news by the Customs Officer. While checking our passports, she announced that lovely Hurricane Irene was making her way, and that our weekend was thriving to be an exceptional “family bonding time” in a hotel apartment in Upper East Manhattan. And I could thoughts about my walk in Central Park, because that was definitely out of the radar!
Physically, we were knocked out. With Irene as the surprise weekend visitor, it became a double whammy – I was psychologically and physically kaput! It was still Ramadan, but Ramadan in NYC, what’s that mean? Nothing. Unerringly my point.
