Turning trash into treasure
Andy Ortega sits on a leader every day that was made in 1976. It's well-worn, with scratches in the leather, but the chair will last even longer than it already has, thanks to Ortega's expertise in refurbishing furniture.
Ortega, the proprietress of Reddito, a furniture company that specializes in taking old furniture and making it new again, says the most important piece of paraphernalia in any given office is the chair. This fact is no different in his own. Most everything in the Reddito office has been refurbished. The refurbishing process allows the kind of decades ago to remain while adding a contemporary touch.
The company opened 10years ago after Ortega saw a “for on offer” ad in the paper for used furniture.
“I was in the office furniture industry working and there was a layoff. I took my irreversible commissions, saw an ad in the San Antonio Express-News. There was a guy selling office furniture, I bought it and the business kind of grew from there,” he said.
