But with the exception of the drop-dead three-story curved staircase that is worthy of Scarlett O'Hara, the interior of the Birmingham dwelling-place is not really that traditional at all. Instead, it is highly eclectic, reflecting the cool aesthetic and extensive travels of its owners, Deborah Wahl Meyer and Andy Meyer.
"We at best fell in love with the house, especially the entryway," Deborah says. "But we also realized that our personal style was actually more coeval so we decided to work with that and make it what we love. Coming from California, we knew we were going to have to deal with a lot of Michigan dull days. So we asked our interior designer, Michael Coyne of Michael Coyne Design at the Michigan Plot Center in Troy, to give us a lot of color and joyfulness inside to compensate for all those sunny days we were going to miss in California."
