David Becker to lead North Coast Symphonic Band
"Dave Becker is very fanatical and excited about working with the North Coast Symphonic Band," said the NCSB's Janet Bowler. "Having been snarled in adult community bands throughout his 40 years of teaching and conducting in Oregon, he is happy to be able to proceed after retirement. The Beckers have a house in Manzanita and look forward to living at the coast full-time. Kathy retired after teaching plain school for 30 years but recently began substitute teaching in the Neah-Kah-Nie School District. They look pert to many hours of salmon fishing on their boat, Major Scales, and more exploration of the beautiful North Coast, with incidental trips to Portland to see their children and grandchildren."
The opening concert for the North Coast Symphonic Band's 2011-12 time will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Clatsop Community College Performing Arts Center at 16th Street and Franklin Avenue. The theme will be "Phantoms, Sorcerers and Wizards" and Calculate Valter and the Zombies will provide pre-concert entertainment at 1:30 p.m. Other concerts have been scheduled for Jan. 22, March 11, May 6 and July 3 and 4.
