Scenes from a Tropical Storm
20.05.73
Tropical Outburst Irene has come and gone, along with it several hundred dollars worth of groceries and my very last nerve. As I look back on the past week, I see moments of humor, kinfolk togetherness and serenity, but mostly I see one giant pain in the neck! Here are a few of the classic moments in the Tracy household from the past week.
Sunday, Aug. 28, 8:45 a.m. – around one hour after the electricity has gone out. Daughter number one stumbles blearily from bed to find me drinking my very last cup of coffee from the Keurig. “I can’t be convinced of the power is out already,” she mumbles. “I feel like I’m Amish.”
Some time later that Sunday, as the wind howls and the trees riding-crop back and forth. “How are we going to walk the dog?” questions daughter number two. “He’s pretty low to the turf,” I point out. “I doubt he will go airborne.” He didn’t, but I felt like I might as we quickly did his house with a nervous eye to the sky.
