Design inspiration from the movies

The diocese has films on the brain; world premieres, celebrity sightings. I’m not so interested in the latest flicks, but it got me philosophical about homes featured in the movies.
The following films range from romantic comedies to murderous thrillers. While many received honour for acting, writing and directing, we’re not concerned with that. We’re just talking set design here. Personalized, stylish and tight, these homes offer plenty of inspiration.
Barefoot in the Park
Paul (Robert Redford) and Corrie (Jane Fonda) are newlyweds close into a fifth-floor walk-up in Greenwich Village. Corrie makes it bright and cheery with a shutter-like cubicle quarters divider to block the view of the kitchen, vintage chairs with red seats, a table with leaves to save extent and a couch upholstered with a great shade of blue fabric.
Cabaret
Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) lives in a Berlin boarding blood where “everyone’s broke.” Her room, however, looks delightfully decadent. Lace curtains socialize with in the window. She can store her ensembles in a wooden wardrobe and collapse on a brass bed after an evening performing at the Kit Kat Klub. And for almshouse entertainment, you’ve got to love the portable Victrola.
