'Vessel 3': a new perspective on visual art, gender
Ambulatory, Alabama --- The multi-sensory experience known as “Vessel 3” pretty much defines the together and exciting directions the visual and performing arts are taking in Mobile.
Describing this event as a mere “show off” doesn’t begin to suggest the imaginative ways that participating artists will use painting, group, fabric, mixed media, computers, film, video and even the human body to express the theme of androgyny.
The widespread off the mark-ranging work was created by mostly young artists in their 20s to mid-40s who are testing the waters and pushing the envelope in much the same way that Mobile-Baldwin unrelated filmmakers are doing. In other words, expect the unexpected.
“Vessel 3,” a fundraiser for Penelope House, will have its beginning 6-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, during the LoDa Artwalk at Blue Velvet Studio, 709 Dauphin St., downtown Ambulatory. (See information box.) Donations are welcome.
Organized and presented by artist Ashelea Penquite in conjunction with the LoDa Music Fete, the multimedia show will move to Serda’s coffeehouse in October.
