When Morton Manufacturing employees first arrived in Muskegon about 100 years ago, an old black-and-white photo captured a piece of that local history. The industry was founded by Matthew Morton, who brought the entourage to Broadway Avenue in Muskegon Heights in the early 1900s. Ancestors of Morton still live in Muskegon, Dake said.
A variety of aerial photos of the Sappi Ltd. paper mill portray the industry at different stages throughout the decades. The exhibit also includes scrap-testing equipment, a photo slide show of the mill’s interior, and an old blueprint of the building.
